What Patio Blinds Actually Do

Blinds for patios stop the weather at the edge of the outdoor area rather than shading it after the fact. How much they hold out comes down to the fabric you choose, and with Vistaweave mesh that means picking a 95%, 98% or 99% blockage level. The higher the number, the more sun, glare and weather the fabric stops, which protects the people using the space along with outdoor furniture, cushions and timber decking. Because the fabric intercepts solar energy before it reaches the patio, it is reducing heat in the space rather than just filtering light, and the temperature underneath drops noticeably.

They also cut wind and rain, again to the level of the weave you choose, and a track guided system holds the fabric taut across the full drop so it does not billow the way an unguided blind does. That is what turns a patio from a three month space into a year round outdoor living area. The same fabric gives you daytime privacy while you can still see out, and in winter a closed blind holds heater warmth in rather than letting it drift off.

Choosing Between Mesh and PVC

Vistaweave Sunscreen Mesh
A woven polyester with a PVC coating, made by an Australian manufacturer with a 40 year history in outdoor fabrics. It is the mesh used across all of our track blinds, from the Budget range through SRS and Ziptrak®.

  • 95% cuts heat and glare while keeping airflow and a clear view out
  • 98% is a tighter weave with more shade and less light
  • 99% is built for maximum privacy and sun control
  • 37 colours, 24 based on COLORBOND® steel shades, with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty through Nolan Group

Clear or Tinted PVC
Vistaweave is the product that suits most spaces, but PVC will give you more blockage again and holds warmth in, so it suits a space you want fully enclosed. The trade off is that PVC lets direct sunlight and its glare into the space, and it holds dust more readily than mesh, so it asks for a bit more cleaning. If your patio cops heavy rain off one particular side, PVC is the more durable answer on that side, and plenty of patios end up with a mix of the two.

Ziptrak track guided outdoor blind in Perth

Our Patio Blind Range

We keep the range deliberately narrow so we can install, adjust and service all of it properly.

Ziptrak® is an Australian owned and manufactured system that has been on the market for more than 20 years. The fabric runs inside aluminium side tracks, which keeps it tensioned and level even in strong wind, with no zip or side tape on show.

Key features

  • A patented track guided design that sits above its competitors
  • A more rounded hood, where the SRS hood is more of a box shape
  • Spring balanced operation, so the blind stops at any height, held by a centre lock release handle
  • Panels up to 6 metres wide by 3.5 metres high
  • Componentry in any COLORBOND® shade or a custom powder coat

SRS is an Australian designed side retention system, developed with local manufacturers and built with the Perth climate in mind, which shows in how it handles salt air and coastal wind.

Key features

  • Fabric sits in side channels with no visible zips or tapes
  • Base rail engineered to resist bowing
  • Runs on a spring, a gearbox and handle, or a motor
  • Sides seal into the channels, so you get insect protection along with shade, shelter and privacy
  • Up to 5 metres wide by 3 metres drop, up to 15m², with an optional colour matched hood

Our budget range is a straight drop blind operated by crank, spring or strap. It gives you sun, glare, privacy and light rain protection at a lower price, which suits rentals or a patio you want covered without stepping up to premium outdoor blinds.

Worth being upfront about

  • The edges are not fully sealed, so expect small gaps
  • More movement in strong wind
  • Less temperature control than a track guided system

Any of our track guided blinds can be motorised and run from a remote, which is worth considering once you have several blinds around a patio or a drop that is awkward to reach. Losing the handle or crank also gives a cleaner look, since there is less visible hardware on the blind.

Manual systems are simpler and more economical, so it is a genuine choice rather than an automatic upgrade. Where you do go motorised, hardwiring is the setup we would recommend, so it is worth flagging early because it can affect layout and cost.

Where We Install Patio Blinds

Most of our work is residential: patios, alfresco areas, verandahs, pergolas and side of house spaces that were built well but sit unused half the year. We fit the same systems for small business areas like cafe courtyards, where the difference is usually operation rather than product, since a space opened and closed several times a day is better off motorised than on a manual spring.

We install into brick, timber and steel, and the fixing method is decided on site based on what your patio is actually built from. The blind is rarely the part that fails first, but a track fixed into the wrong substrate will be.

How the Job Runs

01

Free Measure and Quote

The site visit comes first. We check mounting points, look at how sun, wind and rain actually hit the space, talk through how you use the outdoor area, take measurements and give you a price.

02

Tailored Design

From there we lock in the system, the fabric and the operation method to suit the weather conditions your patio actually gets.

03

Professional Installation

Installation uses fixing methods suited to the surrounding structure. Brackets, tracks and components are positioned and secured, then the blinds are fitted, tensioned and aligned, with wiring and controls included on motorised jobs.

04

Final Check and Aftercare

We finish with a final check, running everything through its full travel and adjusting on site before we leave. Every installation is backed by our workmanship guarantee.

Why Choose Us as Your Patio Blinds Installers

Plenty of installers will screw into whatever surface is in front of them. We treat the install as a structural job: anchoring into rafters or masonry, distributing load properly across roof and fence fixings, and tensioning the material so it holds its shape under load. That is the builder side of the business showing, and it is why the blinds still sit right years later rather than needing adjustment six months in.

Everything we fit is measured to the millimetre and chosen for Perth conditions: intense sun, coastal wind and salt air. We manage the whole job from expert advice at the measure through to installation and the final check, so there is one business accountable for the result rather than several. Every installation is backed by our workmanship guarantee, so if something is not performing the way we said it would, we come back and sort it out at no cost.

What Patio Blinds Cost in Perth

Pricing is quote based, because there is no standard job. What moves the number is the size of the area, the system, the material, how complex the site is to fix into, and whether motorisation is included. A budget straight drop over one opening and motorised Ziptrak® panels wrapping three sides of an alfresco are very different pieces of work.

If you already have your measurements, give us a call and we can give you an approximate price over the phone, and a free measure and quote on site is what confirms it. Finance is also available through humm90, with up to 18 months interest free on approved limits up to $10,000, subject to terms, fees and conditions including a $99 annual fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no set price, because every job is quoted on the area, the system, the material and how the blinds have to be fixed to your structure. The measure and quote is free, and finance through humm90 is there if you would rather spread the cost.

Both are track guided, so the fabric is held in side channels and neither leaves gaps at the edges. Ziptrak® uses a patented version of that design that we would rate above its competitors, and its hood is more rounded where the SRS hood is more of a box shape. On operation and span, Ziptrak® is spring balanced with a centre lock release handle and goes wider and taller, while SRS gives you the spring, gearbox or motorised choice and an optional colour matched hood. Both run the same Vistaweave mesh. We will recommend one over the other once we have seen the span and the exposure of your patio.

Worth answering carefully, because the word gets used loosely in outdoor blind advertising. What we can tell you is what each fabric actually does. Vistaweave mesh holds out sun and weather to the blockage level you choose, 95%, 98% or 99%, so it will keep a patio usable in a shower, but it is not a sealed roof. Clear or tinted PVC gives you more blockage again for a fuller enclosure, at the cost of letting direct sunlight and glare in.

Yes, and that is most of what we do. The site visit is where we check the mounting points and work out how the blinds need to be fixed to what is already there, whether that is brick, timber or steel. If you want motorised blinds on an existing patio, we will talk through the wiring at the measure, since hardwiring is the preferred setup.

Yes. Any of our track guided blinds can be motorised and run from a remote, which is worth doing once you have several blinds around the one patio.

Ziptrak® panels go up to 6 metres wide by 3.5 metres high, and SRS up to 5 metres wide by 3 metres drop. Larger openings are covered by running multiple panels across the span, which we set out at the measure.

Because every blind is custom manufactured to your measurements, installation typically happens 8 to 10 weeks after the check measure. The measure and quote itself can usually be booked in far sooner than that.

Not a great deal. Vistaweave mesh is engineered to resist staining and the build up of dirt, so it generally needs less cleaning than PVC, which holds dust more readily. Both are best cleaned with a hose down and a soft brush rather than anything abrasive, and the tracks are worth a wipe out occasionally so nothing binds.

We cover Perth’s central, eastern and southern suburbs, as far south as Mandurah and the surrounding areas. If you are not sure whether your suburb is covered, the quickest way to find out is to call us on 08 6500 0614 or send through a quote request with your address.
